Choosing Flowers for your Wedding Day – Tips by Johanna Pedrick Flowers

Surrey wedding florist Johanna Pedrick Flowers and I have a lot in common. We both grew up on an island and have made Surrey our home. We also have a great love of the outdoors, sustainability and, of course, flowers. Over the past few years we’ve bonded over coffee and cake, and have had many chats about weddings, flowers and life as a business owner. We’ve also collaborated on a beautiful and romantic styled shoot, inspired by her show-stopping floral Moongate of gorgeous seasonal Summer florals, including the prettiest coral Peonies, Roses and Larkspur, to name a few. Johanna specialises in weddings and has over 20 years experience of working with couples around the world, creating bouquets and floral designs. I absolutely adore her style, which is “beautiful, elegant and romantic and always made with lots of love.” Johanna is also super friendly and always works with beautiful, premium quality flowers.

Johanna is an expert in weaving flowers into your big day, “to enhance the ambience and atmosphere of your celebrations through fragrance, style and colour.” She’s also a total whizz at creating an abundant look with foliage and delicate blooms. So I’ve invited Johanna to share her top tips when choosing your wedding florist.
Tip 1
In our experience, it’s best not to skimp on your bouquet. It is your main floral accessory on the day after all! So if you adore those fragrant Garden roses, they will cost a bit more, but the beauty and joy that they will give you on the day is something that you will remember forever. The stunning bridal bouquet below features stunning Anemones, which are generally in season in May.

Tip 2
We would always recommend using your budget to create one or two large floral designs for maximum impact, to create a statement, rather than lots of smaller ones. This is what will make your guests say Wow as they walk into your Ceremony and Reception room. Pictured below, stunning floral urns on pedestals create a dramatic entrance to the beautiful Orleans House Gallery.
Tip 3
Flower prices are not all the same so it’s important that we know your budget at the beginning of the design process. This helps us to best advise you on the most suitable designs and potential ways to re-purpose your flowers from your Ceremony to your Wedding Breakfast – making your flowers go further! Tip 4
We always recommend using flowers that are in season because they are always at their very best and fully embrace the season that you’re marrying in. As a professional florist with many years of experience, we can advise you on the most beautiful seasonal blooms for your wedding day and any particular challenges to consider when choosing your flowers. The bridal bouquet below features a gorgeous warm winter colour palette of white, cream, caramel, peach and orange, with the most beautiful flowers and wispy greenery to create softness and texture to complement the bride’s gown.
